GW Addons - Myth?
If i posted this in the wrong folder I apologize, I perused through the others and didn't really find one that fit, if this is in the wrong folder please by all means move this thread .
I googled it, looked it up on a few other fan sites but i cannot for the life of me find any addons for this game other than the sites that want you to pay for something. I played GW a few years ago but jumped on over to WoW where I got into addons to help maximize my playing performance. Now I'm at the point where I've gotten bored of WoW and haven't played GW in a long time I'm enjoying it lots, but I feel lacking without addons. What I'm really looking for is GUI addons, like a different style hud (not location of where things are but a different look), damage meters so while I'm experimenting with prof specs I can find which one is easier for me to maximize my damage output or healing output. A modified DoT timer which would also display a numerical value of the remaining time instead of a bar or having to hover over to see how many seconds are left so you could time the cast to the remaining time to reapply the DoT perfectly. Just real general addons, and my questions is do they exist? And better yet are there legitimate sites to get them from like how WoW has curse.com and wowinterface.com? Any info would be appreciated |

You can change the graphics in GW with TexMod. There are many UI mods that change the look and color of the interface, including 50% marks on health bars, additional radar markings, and even skill animation effects.
The other kinds of mods you are talking about require modifying the game client, and ArenaNet does not support that. Start here. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide...-game_graphics The thread here just links to mods on the official Guild Wars wiki. |

1. ArenaNet doesn't object to TexMod and similar programs that change the look of the game on your computer only.
2. If you are detected using any program that would give you an advantage over other players, such as a bot, your account will get blocked. 3. No attempt to alter the server-side program is allowed. Read the legal stuff on the guildwars.com website. http://www.guildwars.com/support/legal/ ArenaNet/NCSoft enforce the EULA. So, yes, GW add-ons are a myth.

The add-ons I've heard mentioned for WoW seems to do more than change how things look at your end. One apparently calculates aggro, letting you know when to back off before the big meanie starts targeting you instead of the tank. Something like that would be in direct violation of the Guild Wars EULA ... fortunately.

To the op though, There's no hope of this in gw. so it is indeed a myth. The best you'll get is texmod, which is nothing even close to wow-style addons so don't get excited about those "mods". But who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and get useful new features like this in gw2.. Last edited by Blackhearted; Dec 19, 2008 at 04:33 PM // 16:33.. |

No I think 'fortunately' was the correct term.
Funny how my vision of playing a 'fantasy' or 'swords and sorcery' style game, doesn't involve some handy little electronic gizmo, which warns my character when he has got aggro or needs to re-poison. If I am standing there 'nuking' away, or applying DOT etc etc, I count on my own observation and skill/understanding to see me through. Not an anachronistic 'PDA'. |

I agree, playing with those sorts of addons would be like using cheat codes in console games. But, if you want to make the game easier/faster so you can get less value for your money, be my guest.

We already have many ways of making the game easier from grouping to runners and levelers. GW is full of ways to help you beat the game with less effort - just not third-party programs.
Is this bad? No, we all need help now and then, but to completely depend on something other than your own skill means you bought a very expensive chat program.

It goes back to the ethos of GW that it's supposed to be more about player ability Quote:

I messed with WoW briefly and it's addons, as well as several other games with their addaons/mods - to sum it all up, they are strictly speaking something to make the game easier for you. If every player out there had them then they may have a legit. use, ie be fair to all. However they don't and aren't. I would far rather have a game that takes a little skill and knowledge of the game engine etc., rather than a bunch of aids that could enable my 79 yr old granny to play and roxor nublets with.
